3G Auction Results

Its curtains for the 3G auction and at the end of this enthralling marathon of 183 rounds, we finally have the winners announced. Here are a few highlights of the results:

Bharti, Vodafone & Reliance look poised to be the largest 3G operators given their excellent coverage of Metros & A-circles. The top-dogs are closely followed by Idea & Aircel. Tata did not win any metro, but would have good coverage in 9 circles.

Once the spectrum gets awarded in September this year, the race to launch commercial services would gain momentum. The aggression shown by operators in this bidding reminds me of the phrase – “Any time you try to win everything, you must be willing to lose everything”.
